TRAINING OF YOUTH IN PEACE BUILDING AND CONFLICT RESOLUTION

In 2016, through the help of the UNHCR YIF, we conducted a training of host community and refugee youth from Eritrea, South Sudan, Sudan, Somalia and Burundi in Kampala Uganda. The objectives of the training included; Youth analyses the causes of conflicts in their Communities, Youth understand the use of dialogues in solving conflicts and unrest in communities and Youth public speaking skills, Advocacy and confidence is enhance. A total of 50 Youth were trained in the areas of Transitional Justice, Human rights, Peace building and conflict resolution, self-awareness and emotional intelligence. The trained youth are now community peace ambassadors and will continue with training and enrolling of more 200 youth in 2017.

HELPING YOUNG REFUGEES ACCESS EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES

The young refugee youth in AYAN helped in soliciting for scholarship opportunities for young secondary school going students from poor host families and refugee families to join secondary schools in Kampala Uganda. The Beneficiaries were from the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan, Burundi, Sudan and Uganda in 2016. AYAN Partners with low tuition secondary schools in Uganda to help the young refugee access better education opportunities for their holistic development.

DONATION OF NON-FOOD ITEMS TO REFUGEES IN SETTLEMENTS

Young people contributed to the betterment of their fellow refugees in the settlements and those fleeing the violence and escalating insecurity situations in South Sudan through collecting non-food items which included clothes, shoes, bags, bed sheets among others that were distributed to persons with special needs (PSN) in the refugee settlements. The PSN included the deaf, blind, elderly, disable among others.

YOUTH FOR PEACE EVENT

AYAN organized the youth for Peace Event in October 2016 for youth from the refugee communities to share their testimonies on their peace Journey, use culture to unite people in their communities. It was attended by Embassies, Uganda Government officials, National and International NGOs in Kampala Uganda.
