Youth Training Centre – Bweyale Town
The AYAN through its skill the refugee youth program runs a sandal making workshop in Bweyale town, Kiryandongo district. The Workshop is located 4km from Kiryandongo refugee settlement so that refugee youth can walk and acquire some life skills in the Centre. The Centre is managed by 3 refugee youth, who were trained in Kampala by Komuka Skills hub in partnership with AYAN Uganda for 4 months in 2018.
This project aims at promoting resilience of vulnerable youth aged 17- 30 years through craft skills. The project also intends to improve and sustain Self-reliance and livelihoods among Youth in the refugee settlement. At the start of the project in the first 3 months, a total of 30 Youth (10 Ladies 20 Boys) will be trained on craft skill and VSLA through the AYAN Social enterprise training.
The center will be expected to produce 150 pairs of craft products of different sizes and designs monthly. The center will also retain some of the trained youth to train more beneficiaries as well earn an extra income to support their basic needs (School fees, health, shelter, etc.) which will be crucial to sustain the project beyond the 12 months’ period. The center will be expected to make a monthly sale of $950 with 60% of the earnings goes to the expansion and maintenance of the center, 20% as salaries and 20% as social corporate responsibility to support the refugee community especially the vulnerable people. Our targeted market is locally in Uganda, All East African Countries and internationally (Europe and North America).

- For $50, you can buy leather, and soles for making 10 pairs of sandals
- For $150, you can buy one bench grinder for the Centre
- For $300, you can procure an automatic sandal sewing machine
- For $1,000, you can help train 50 youth in the Centre.
